Message From the Director

Migraine and headache disorders affect millions of people worldwide, yet there remains a critical shortage of board-certified headache specialists. For too long, migraines have been stigmatized and undertreated. With the development of targeted therapies and increased awareness through mainstream and social media, we are witnessing a transformative moment in headache medicine. More people are recognizing how common and disabling these conditions truly are, and the need for specialized, compassionate care has never been greater.

The Headache Medicine Fellowship at The Mount Sinai Hospital is built on a foundation of collaborative, culturally competent care. We believe that headache is a team sport, and our program reflects this philosophy in every aspect of training. Our fellows learn alongside faculty with diverse subspecialties and clinical interests, gaining exposure to a broad spectrum of patients and complex cases. From pediatric headache to interventional pain, and from women's health to LGBTQIA+ headache care, our curriculum offers depth and breadth that few programs can match.

We foster a culture of multi-disciplinary teamwork where fellows work closely with faculty across specialties, learning not in isolation but as part of a supportive community. Fellows consistently tell us they learn an enormous amount while genuinely enjoying their training experience and team camaraderie.

What truly distinguishes our program is our commitment to advancing the field while serving underserved populations. We are actively expanding our migraine registry and providing care to communities that have historically lacked access to specialized treatment. Our faculty's unique clinical and research interests create opportunities for fellows to engage in groundbreaking work that addresses real health disparities.

My goal as program director is to train headache physicians who are not only clinically excellent but also committed to innovation. Our fellowship will challenge you intellectually, support you personally, and prepare you to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people living with headache disorders.
