How to Apply

The Department of Neurosurgery accepts applicants through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applications are accepted between September 1 and October 15. Only applications that contain the following will be reviewed:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Personal statement
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Medical school transcript
  • USMLE score(s)
  • Dean’s letter
  • Proof of a J-1 Visa and a current ECFMG Certificate (if foreign-born)
  • Dean’s letter (optional but accepted and reviewed if submitted)

Additionally, the Department of Neurosurgery is participating in the supplemental ERAS application program. It is designed to help applicants share more information about themselves and assist our program in finding applicants that fit our setting and mission.

The supplemental ERAS application is a short and free application with questions designed to showcase applicants' previous experiences and interests. Applicants have been asked to provide:

  • Geographic preference information (by region and by urban/rural setting)
  • Information about their most meaningful work, volunteer or research experiences; and
  • Program signals

After a review of the applications, the Department will select which candidates it would like to interview. Invitations for these interviews will be sent out via email beginning in October 2023. Interviews are scheduled to take place in November and December 2023.

Applicants and programs submit their rankings to the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) by February 1 for programs and March 1 for applicants. Applicants and programs are notified of the match results on Match Day in mid-March.
