The Light and Health Research Center conducts traditional research while bridging the science of light to novel applications for the health of humans and the world at large in the following program areas:
- Light for Human Health - focuses on attaining a better understanding of the lighting characteristics and applications that are effective for maintaining healthy circadian rhythms in the built environment.
- Light for Transportation Safety - evaluates lighting for the promotion of visibility, visual comfort, safety, and security for vehicles and road networks, airplanes and runways, and the workplace.
- Light for Plant Health - dedicated to developing sustainable disease management solutions using the latest lighting technologies to educate stakeholders on using light and other forms of optical energy to control plant diseases.
- Light for Energy Efficiency - aims to maximize the biological benefits per unit of electricity to reduce lighting’s negative impact on the environment.
