The Women’s Biomedical Research Institute at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is involved with basic, translational, clinical, and lifespan research into women’s health. In each of these areas, the Institute supports a number of research studies. As the Institute continues to expand, so will the number of our laboratories and research studies. In addition, the Institute believes in mentoring physicians, physician-scientists, and scientists involved in women’s health care and research. We have developed both informal and formal approaches to progress this effort.
Mentoring
The Institute believes in mentoring the next generation of physician-scientists working in women’s health. We sponsor mentoring opportunities and support physicians and scientists from a variety of areas, including obstetrics/gynecology, maternal-fetal-medicine, neonatology, reproductive endocrinology, psychiatry, immunology, pediatric neurology, microbiology, and cardiology. In addition, these mentoring opportunities are open to undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows, and full faculty members.
Philosophical Underpinning
The Institute embraces diversity in science through the education and promotion of diverse scientists and through the understanding and application of how social determinants of health impact health for women. As an institute, we are committed to reproductive justice and the autonomy and empowerment of women.
