Mental Health and Wellness Resources

Mount Sinai provides programs and services that support physical, emotional, financial, spiritual, and professional well-being. From confidential mental health services (including counseling, psychiatric care, crisis support, and resilience training) to a wide range of wellness resources, employees, faculty, students, trainees, residents, and fellows have access to support designed to help them thrive both at work and in their personal lives.

We offer psychiatric services, employee benefits, and professional support. Services include:

Psychiatry Services

Our psychiatric services include medical management and psychotherapy. They are:

  • Center for Stress, Resilience, and Personal Growth: Provides resilience workshops, outreach, and free confidential behavioral health care for Mount Sinai students, trainees, faculty, and staff. General hours are Monday–Friday, 9 am–5 pm, with additional appointments available. Contact the Center at 212-659-5564 or MS-CSRPG@mountsinai.org. You can reach the Wellness Hub app through Sinai Central.
  • Mount Sinai Department of Psychiatry Faculty Practice: Offers confidential psychiatric evaluation, psychotherapy, and medication management through in-person and telepsychiatry visits. Contact 212-659-8752 or PsychiatryFPA@mssm.edu. Accepts UMR Top-Tier and select insurance plans.
  • Mount Sinai Behavioral Health Outpatient Program: Provides psychiatric evaluation, psychotherapy, medication management, and telehealth services for adults, children, and adolescents. Services are available across multiple Mount Sinai locations and accept most insurance plans.

  • Mount Sinai Primary Care: Primary care physicians can assess common mental health concerns, provide treatment when appropriate, and coordinate referrals for additional care.   • Mount Sinai Wellness: Access wellness resources through Mount Sinai employee benefits.
  • Mount Sinai Calm: Offers confidential self-care consultations, stress management resources, mindfulness, yoga, Pilates, volunteer tutoring for working parents, and an extensive online wellness library.   • Mount Sinai Fit: Provides nutrition counseling, diabetes management, smoking cessation, and fitness resources.
  • Spiritual Care and Education: Offers spiritual, emotional, and religious support, including Take10 staff support programs. Call 212-241-7262.
  • Mount Sinai Recreation Office: Provides employee discounts on entertainment, travel, fitness memberships, and other services. Call 212-241-6660.

  • Lactation Facilities: Offers lactation rooms and pods across the Health System.
  • The Ombuds Office: Provides confidential and impartial conflict resolution services for students, trainees, and faculty.
  • Well Work-Life and Family-Friendly Culture: Central resource for family-friendly policies, work-life integration, and employee support programs.

Professional and Peer Support

We offer professional and peer support for both health care workers and faculty.

  • Health Care Workers: ICARE Peer Support: Confidential peer support helps following stressful clinical events. Reach out 24/7 at 212-241-8989.
  • Faculty: Resilience workshops are evidence-based workshops provided through the Center for Stress, Resilience, and Personal Growth.

Grief Counseling

Employees dealing with grief can receive counseling through these services:

  • MSHS Employee Assistance Program: Provides free, confidential short-term counseling for employees and covered dependents. Call 212-241-8937.
  • Individual Self-Care Consultations by Mount Sinai Calm: Offers confidential one-on-one consultations with licensed clinical social workers to develop a personalized self-care plan. Contact 4Calm@mountsinai.org.

We offer a range of psychiatry services, including:

  • Student and Trainee Mental Health Service: Provides confidential counseling, psychotherapy, medication management, and mental health referrals for students, residents, fellows, and postdoctoral fellows. Contact 212-659-8805 or email the program.
  • WellConnect: Provides 24/7 confidential crisis counseling and emergency mental health support. Call 212-241-2400 or 866-339-7725.
  • NYC 988: Offers free, confidential crisis counseling 24/7. Call or text 988.
  • PEERS: Peer-led resilience and well-being program focused on building community and practical resilience skills. Contact Hargrove@mountsinai.org.

Resilience Workshops: Interactive resilience training through the Center for Stress, Resilience and Personal Growth at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Contact Scarlett.Ho@mssm.edu.

Programs available for medical residents and clinical fellows include:

  • Interactive Screening Program: Offers an anonymous mental health screening with confidential follow-up from Student and Trainee Mental Health counselors. Contact owbr@mssm.edu for additional information.
  • External Mental Health Resources: The following resources are available outside Mount Sinai.
    • NYC 988 offers free, confidential, 24/7 mental health and crisis support by phone, text, or chat in more than 200 languages. Dial 988.
    • Octave offers therapy for anxiety, trauma, depression, couples, and more—and now accepts UMR insurance. Schedule a free consultation today.
    • Psychology Today: This webpage provides listings of mental health providers by specialty and geographic area.

Health System leaders may need extra support. We offer mental health protocol for threatened or actual loss of life. Options include:

  • Well-Being Crisis Response Protocol: Guidance for supporting the Mount Sinai community following critical incidents involving actual or threatened loss of life. Contact owbr@mssm.edu for access.
  • Framework for Providing Support to Staff and Team Members: This protocol is intended to address critical incidents involving the acute loss of life, including the completed suicide or unexpected death of an Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai student, trainee, faculty, or staff member. We also offer guidance for response in the event of expected deaths, unexpected deaths off campus, and threatened loss of life (such as openly expressed suicidal ideation, suicidal gestures, or suicide attempts and a missing colleague). Access the framework for providing support to staff and team members

Medical students can avail themselves of these resources:

  • Medical School Advising System: This group assigns students wellness advisors, career advisors, and peer advisors/mentors to help guide you through all four years of medical school. The advisors provide distinct services:
    • Wellness advisors:Clinical social workers are available for one-on-one meetings focused on self-care, support, and resource building. They help you cope with school pressures and interpersonal or relationship issues. They can also make referrals for additional mental health or other supportive services if needed.
    • Career advisors:These practicing physicians within the Mount Sinai Health System have no role in assessment or advancement of their students. They are your first point of contact for academic, career, and professional development. You can make an appointment on Blackboard via MARC.
    • Student Peer Advisors:This group is primarily composed of fourth-year medical students who offer peer support, guidance, and mentorship. Our peer advisors also consult with wellness and career advisors to provide holistic support and best advising practices to their junior peers.
  • IcahnBeWell: This student-led wellness initiative promotes emotional, physical, spiritual, professional, and financial well-being.

Practical Applications of Well-Being: Integrated wellness sessions within the ASCEND curriculum provide practical, evidence-based strategies to support student well-being.
