The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) and the Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) are committed to supporting our faculty, staff, and students as they balance family, education, and career priorities and obligations. As outlined in Mount Sinai’s policy, “Nursing Mothers in the Workplace,” we provide our faculty, staff, and students who are nursing with accommodations to express milk. These spaces are for the sole purpose of expressing and collecting breast milk. We provide easily accessible and comfortable space, including pods and rooms, for people to pump during their scheduled workday or while attending classes.
We provide notice to our employees (students, staff, and faculty) upon hire of their right to express breast milk. If you wish to use this benefit, you must submit a request form. Your supervisor or manager will respond to the request within five business days.
Lactation Pods
Lactation pods at the Mount Sinai Health System are private spaces for breastfeeding students, faculty and staff. Our lactation pods are provided by Mamava, an organization dedicated to raising the profile of breastfeeding. Designed for comfort, these pods make breastfeeding more convenient and accommodating for nursing people. The lactation pods are equipped with bacteria-resistant surfaces. You must provide your own breast pump and accessories.
