ABIM Research Track

Our American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Research Track offers comprehensive training for Internal Medicine residents committed to research-based academic careers. Through this track, residents complete a two-year internal medicine residency, followed by subspecialty training with dedicated research time, working alongside Mount Sinai faculty engaged in investigation. Our graduates have consistently secured NIH career development awards and independent funding, establishing successful careers in academic medicine.

Personalized Mentorship and Support

From day one, the director of the Research Track provides individualized guidance, supporting residents as they meet clinical milestones, while connecting them with research faculty mentors in areas of interest. Residents also participate in the Department of Medicine Research Conference, attend the institution-wide Physician-Scientist Career Development Series, and join a network of current and former physician-scientists.

Flexible, Integrated Training

Our program is designed to be personally tailored, leveraging both the Department of Medicine's strong clinical tradition and the extensive research infrastructure across the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Upon completion of the program, residents may continue their training in Mount Sinai's fellowship programs or apply to other institutions aligned with their career goals.
