Integrative Medicine Program

The Integrative Medicine Program at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai fosters innovative education, research, and health services in our mission to provide safe and cost-effective integrative primary care to medically underserved communities throughout New York City.

The Program represents a collaboration between the Alfred and Gail Engelberg Department of Family Medicine and Community Health and the Institute for Family Health. The Institute for Family Health is a network of 32 health centers across Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, and Dutchess and Ulster counties in the Mid-Hudson Valley.

Integrative medicine is a holistic approach that emphasizes the importance of the practitioner-patient relationship, focusing on the whole person through evidence-based practices and collaborative therapeutic approaches. It aims to achieve optimal health and healing by partnering with patients, addressing the context of illness and wellness, promoting prevention and self-care, and utilizing natural, less invasive interventions as the first line of treatment.

Since its inception, education has been an integral part of the Integrative Medicine Program. Our unique nine-month Interprofessional Program in Integrative Healthcare gives students the knowledge and skills to effectively incorporate integrative approaches into their clinical practice and teaching activities.

Our ongoing partnerships with departments throughout Icahn Mount Sinai help to promote greater awareness, dialogue, and opportunities for further collaboration. The program regularly disseminates information on the integrative approaches offered throughout Mount Sinai Health System’s clinical, educational, and research initiatives.
