Educational Programs

Interprofessional Program in Integrative Healthcare
The Interprofessional Program in Integrative Healthcare is a nine-month, immersive course designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, and other health professionals. It provides an overview of modalities in integrative medicine, as well as integrative approaches to common clinical problems. The program also includes biweekly interdisciplinary case conferences, in which participants present cases from their own practices for discussion.

This curriculum equips participants with the knowledge needed to incorporate integrative approaches into both their teaching activities and clinical practice. After completion, all program graduates are encouraged to continue to bring their clinical cases to our case conference sessions.

The Interprofessional Program curriculum is delivered through a combination of didactics and case conferences. The didactics are divided between modality-based sessions, which cover specific therapeutic approaches, and system or condition-based sessions, which demonstrate the application of these approaches to specific medical conditions. These sessions are a mix of experiential and traditional presentations, with frequent opportunities for questions and discussion.

The case conferences present an opportunity to discuss a range of cases with multidisciplinary faculty, including practitioners of allopathic medicine, Chinese medicine, psychotherapy, naturopathy, and nutrition. During these sessions, participants present cases from their own practices to gain feedback on how the integrative approach might apply to that case. To ensure the presence of a diversity of disciplines and philosophies of healing, we rotate faculty throughout the case conference schedule.

Institute for Family Health Fellowship

In partnership with Icahn School Mount Sinai, the Institute for Family Health offers a one-year fellowship designed to equip primary care physicians with valuable integrative family medicine skills in an underserved setting.

The fellowship is certified by the American Board of Integrative Medicine, under the American Board of Physician Specialties, and enables graduates to sit for the American Board of Integrative Medicine exam. It provides comprehensive experience in various integrative medicine modalities, including botanical medicine, cultural practices, nutritional supplements, hypnotherapy, and more.

Based at the Mount Sinai Downtown Residency in Urban Family Medicine, the curriculum allows fellows to develop their skills in both primary care and consultative contexts. It also offers academic opportunities, such as mentorship in precepting residents, teaching medical students, and collaborating on residency curriculum initiatives. Fellows additionally enjoy the chance to participate in research projects and engage in weekly didactics and case conferences.
