Department of Graduate Education

The Department of Graduate Education at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai gives faculty who teach graduate students in biomedical sciences the support, recognition, and resources they need to excel as educators. Led by Marta Filizola, PhD, Dean for the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Mount Sinai and Sharon and Frederick Klingenstein/Nathan Kase, MD Professor, Departments of Pharmacological Sciences, Neuroscience, and Artificial Intelligence and Human Health, the department creates a centralized home for teaching faculty. Through our work, faculty gain access to training, funding opportunities, and collaborations across the Mount Sinai Health System. The Department ensures teaching done by our faculty receives the same attention, investment, and recognition as research.

We support the complete educational pipeline, from faculty preparation to student outcomes, including:

  • Professional development that helps faculty adapt to new technologies like artificial intelligence
  • New degree programs that prepare students for emerging careers in biomedical science and health care
  • Research on how new technologies are changing the way students learn
  • Partnerships that integrate innovation into institutional priorities and community engagement
  • A focus on individual faculty mentorship as well as resources and tools to enhance faculty-to-student mentoring skills

This approach fosters scholarly excellence and drives transformative change in how biomedical science is taught and practiced.
