Windreich Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Health

The Windreich Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and its centers and institutes embrace the promise of artificial intelligence (AI) to fundamentally revolutionize health care. By enabling us to develop more accurate diagnoses, expedite drug discovery, and deliver greater personalized care, AI capabilities point toward a brighter future for everyone. Our mission is to transform those opportunities into real patient results throughout the Mount Sinai Health System.

Encompassing eight hospitals and more than 400 ambulatory clinics, we recognize the significant work ahead of us throughout the Mount Sinai Health System. Our current goals include:

  • Creating an “intelligent fabric” that infuses machine-learning and AI-driven decision-making. This intelligent fabric will make tools and techniques available to all Mount Sinai researchers and physicians, thereby facilitating improved emergency responses and long-term strategic decisions.
  • Training the next generation of computer scientists through a variety of educational forums, including our informal sessions open to the entire Health System, as well as our formal doctoral program, open to applicants from across the globe.
  • Enhancing partnerships both within and beyond the Mount Sinai Health System as we continue our patient-centered AI efforts.

The Windreich Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Health is an extension of Mount Sinai’s legacy of leadership in digital health. As the foremost department of its kind within Icahn Mount Sinai, we anticipate our approach will serve as a model for other health care organizations around the world.

Join Our Faculty

We are currently seeking promising early to mid-career candidates with an excellent track record in computer science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to join our faculty.

Our Department benefits from a state-of-the-art facility situated in the center of The Mount Sinai Hospital campus. The facility houses all AI research initiatives and contains large supercomputers with cloud computing database capabilities. In addition to enabling the integration of our research within the patient care process, this facility supports our faculty as they collaborate with clinicians across the Mount Sinai Health System.

The Icahn Mount Sinai Scholars Portal

The Scholars Portal is an institution-wide research information management tool for tracking research metrics and impact. It helps pinpoint publications and other kinds of research output, people, projects and grants, research units (departments, institutions, centers), datasets, and research-related activities. Our Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Health site within the Scholars Portal provides further information on our specific research activities.
