The Icahn School of Medicine has developed a new Faculty Parental Leave Policy. This policy, created with input from faculty, Chairs and administrators across the School, covers both birth mothers and non-birth parents. It is designed to give eligible faculty compensated time to care for and bond with their new children, as well as to care for their sick children. The effective date for this new policy is April 1, 2020.
Faculty must meet the following criteria to be eligible for Mount Sinai’s Faculty Parental Leave Policy:

- Part-time Employed Faculty – must be at the rank of Clinical Instructor and above and be employed .6FTE or more;
- Both full-time and part-time faculty must be employed for at least one year prior to the birth or adoption event.
