FlexGrad Program

The FlexGrad Program within the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai offers a unique pathway to early assurance of admission into our PhD in Biomedical Sciences program or PhD in Neuroscience program.

The Program provides credit for laboratory rotations and additional benefits such as personalized mentorship from distinguished faculty members.

FlexGrad Eligibility and Requirements

Through FlexGrad, rising juniors and seniors who meet specific academic and research criteria are conditionally admitted into the PhD in Biomedical Sciences program or PhD in Neuroscience program, allowing them to streamline their academic progression toward a degree or dual degree at Icahn Mount Sinai.

To be eligible for early admissions to the PhD in Biomedical Sciences program or PhD in Neuroscience program through FlexGrad, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Rising third- or fourth-year full-time college student, working toward a bachelor’s degree at college or university in the United States or Canada
  2. Demonstration of research commitment sufficient to inform career plans that build on their PhD training

If accepted to the PhD in Biomedical Sciences program or PhD in Neuroscience program through FlexGrad, students must meet the following eligibility criteria prior to matriculation:

  1. Honors thesis or equivalent
  2. One year of either Chemistry, Biology, or Physics, with no less than a “B”
  3. One year Mathematics, with no less than a “B”
  4. One semester of a Statistics course*

*No online courses can be used to fulfill the pre-matriculation requirements
