Residency is one of the most rewarding experiences in medicine, but it can also be one of the most challenging. My role as Associate Program Director is to help ensure that, throughout your training, you never feel like you have to navigate those challenges alone.
As one of the few Assistant Program Directors in the country with a PhD in Psychology, I have the privilege of bringing a different perspective to graduate medical education. While my focus certainly includes resident wellness, my goal extends beyond wellness initiatives. I want to help our residents develop the resilience, self-awareness, and confidence that allows them to thrive, not only as physicians, but as people.
Some of the most meaningful conversations happen after a difficult patient encounter, a challenging rotation, or during moments when the demands of residency feel especially heavy. I strive to create a space where residents feel comfortable sharing those experiences, knowing they will be met with empathy, support, and practical guidance.Just as importantly, I see myself as an advocate for our residents. Through regular meetings and ongoing conversations, I work to understand their experiences, identify opportunities for improvement, and collaborate with our program leadership to make meaningful changes. I believe that the strongest residency programs are those that listen to their trainees and continuously evolve to meet their needs.
My hope is that every resident feels seen, heard, and valued throughout their journey here. If I can help make residency feel a little more manageable, a little more personal, and a place where you can grow both professionally and personally, then I know I've done my job.
