Structural Heart Disease Interventional Fellowship

The Structural Heart Disease Fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital is designed to train qualified applicants in various aspects of percutaneous valvular and other non-valvular structural interventions.  It is a one-year fellowship after a formal one year of interventional cardiology fellowship. Graduates of our training program are expected to be fully proficient in performing all aspects of structural interventional techniques such as:

  • Balloon aortic and mitral valvuloplasty (BAV and BMV)
  • Alcohol Septal Ablation
  • Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
  • Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair and Replacement (TMVr & TMVR)
  • Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Repair and Replacement
  • Paravalvular Leak Closure
  • Left Atrial Appendage Closure
  • Atrial Septal Defect/ Patent Foramen Ovale Closure

We have a busy academic schedule with regular educational activities include case presentations, CT/MRI and TEE review, and research meeting.  The Mount Sinai Cath lab performs over 400 structural interventions every year.  Fellows will gain expertise in the clinical evaluation, procedural planning, and management of patients considered for these structural heart interventions, as well as gain familiarity with the interpretation and performance of advanced imaging modalities. Each fellow can expect to perform between >200 structural interventions with progressive responsibility as an independent operator.

The top features of our Structural Cardiology Fellowship Program include:

  • Opportunity to actively learn side by side with some of the most skillful and experienced operators in the world.
  • An exceptionally high proportion of complex interventions are performed annually at Mount Sinai, allowing our fellows to gain confidence by hands-on learning as primary operators.
  • Education with all available cutting-edge technology from faculty that are leaders in the field of Interventional Cardiology.
  • Work closely with Mount Sinai faculty who are editors of major heart journals, including: the Journal of American College of Cardiology (JACC), JACC Cardiovascular Imaging, and CardioSource WorldNews Interventions.
  • Participation in live clinical cases, including webcasts and the annual New York Valve symposium.
  • Inspiration to strive for the highest levels of technical excellence, safety and appropriateness.
  • A remarkable and collegial family of physicians, nurses, technicians and staff with a shared commitment to excellence and a love for what we do.
