Below are some important points to guide you as you conduct research through the affiliation between the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
Ownership of Intellectual Property
Each invention made under the ISMMS-RPI affiliation agreement is owned by the party employing the inventor (as determined by U.S. Patent Law), regardless of the institution at which the invention is made. The technology is jointly owned when there is at least one inventor from each institution. Mount Sinai Innovation Partners and RPI Office of Technology Commercialization, the technology licensing arms of the two institutions, determine which institution will take the lead on commercialization and royalty sharing on a case-by-case basis.
Scientist Visits
RPI and ISMMS scientists visiting each other’s campuses to carry out collaborative work are not required to have Visiting Scientist Agreements.
Use of Core Facilities
Both ISMMS and RPI apply internal invoicing fees to Mount Sinai and RPI investigators.
