Computer Services at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) provides students, faculty, and staff with resources and services to meet a variety of computing needs.
Computational Biology Facility
The Computational Biology Facility provides researchers with access to high-performance computing systems. The facility has two clusters. Both clusters are ideal platforms for open source applications that can take advantage of a large numbers of processors, especially for parallel processing.
There are a number of services available to faculty, staff, and students within the School’s Levy Library. They include two self-service scanning stations networked to computers loaded with Adobe Acrobat Professional and Adobe Photoshop, and on-site and remote access Library resources.
The Icahn School of Medicine maintains a campus-wide video conferencing network and assists individuals and departments with live two-way interactive video connectivity to any compatible video system in the world. The H.320/H.323 standard industry protocol supports both IP and ISDN links.
There are approximately two dozen registered end points (rooms) on campus and at affiliates that have equipment capable of establishing a video virtual presence for meetings and consultations. Support of special events such as connecting to keynote speakers to/from far sites can be arranged. Currently, we offer Medicine, Pediatric, Ob-Gyn, Psychiatry, Geriatric, and Surgery Rounds provided to properly equipped affiliates. This equipment is available on an hourly basis, and rates depend on support requirements. A video bridging service allows multiple sites to be connected at the same time. Additional services can be added from outside bridging service companies.
To access this service, please obtain the technical contact of the site you wish to connect to for your event and contact Telemedicine Services within the Department of Medical Education at 212-241-7060 to initiate a certification test with the site. Once certified, an event may be scheduled.
Currently there are installed systems in East Seminar Room, and Goldwurm, Hatch, and Stern auditoriums. Smaller venues are available for 1 to 20 people.
