Applicant Acceptance Decision Protocols
The Icahn School of Medicine is committed to having a transparent and professional admissions process. To this end we ask applicants to be forthcoming and transparent in both their needs and intentions throughout the admissions cycle. In addition, the Icahn School of Medicine expects applicants to follow the Association of American Medical Colleges’ (AAMC) Application and Acceptance Protocols. Applicants who have multiple acceptance offers must make a final decision no later than April 30.
From December through August: The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai will make admissions decisions. Applicants accepted to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai must acknowledge receipt of the offer of acceptance in the Admissions Platform. Two weeks after receipt of the offer, students should inform ISMMS if they would like to continue to hold a place in the incoming class by selecting the “Hold Acceptance” button.
From acceptance until March 15: Accepted applicants should consider selecting the “Highly Considering Offer” button. This will allow students highly considering ISMMS for their medical education to indicate their intentions. This will assist ISMMS in understanding that an accepted applicant is interested in the School.
From acceptance until April 15: Accepted applicants should consider selecting the “Plan to Enroll” button. The AAMC advises accepted students to narrow their offers of acceptance to three medical schools (if applicable) by April 15. This will help ISMMS know if students have selected our school as one of their top three choices.
From acceptance until April 30: Accepted applicants should select the “Accept Offer” button if they are ready to withdraw their applications from all other schools that accepted them. The AAMC advises accepted students to narrow their offers to one school by this date. Accepted students should officially accept their offer when they are ready to commit to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai for medical school but may continue to hold waitlist positions at others. Please note, providing the Social Security Number is required for the enrollment process.
Any time after acceptance and 21 days before orientation: Accepted applicants should select the “Commit to Enroll” button. It is required to be selected by all accepted students matriculating at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. At this point accepted students are required to withdraw from all other options for medical school.
If students decide to decline our offer of acceptance at any time during this process, they must update the application portal and email us at accepted.student@mssm.edu.
Failure to satisfy any of these requirements and deadlines will result in reevaluation of an acceptance offer by the Admissions Committee of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
