Commencement Logistics

Each year our goal is to ensure that all those graduating from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences have a celebratory ceremony to share with their friends and family. This year our Commencement Ceremony will be held in person, with the option to join online as well.

The Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2024 will be held in Stern Auditorium on Friday, June 21, at 2pm. The event will also be livestreamed, and a viewing link will be provided to all graduates closer to the ceremony date. The guest speaker this year is Sandro Galea, MD, MPH, DrPH. Dr. Galea is a physician, epidemiologist, and author, and is Dean and Robert A. Knox Professor at Boston University School of Public Health.

Ceremony Logistics

Graduates have until May 1 to order their cap and gown, and we pick up the tab. That’s right—as long as your order is made by May 1, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai pays for your rental. Please begin your ordering process at Herff Jones.

Those who miss the May 1 deadline must pay for their order without the guarantee that Herff Jones can fulfill the rental. All regalia questions should be directed to Steven Clarke at Herff Jones: 516-223-2572.

Graduates may pick up their regalia on either June 4, from 2-5pm, or June 5, from 11am-2pm in Stern Auditorium. Please note that after the Commencement Ceremony, once you have taken pictures in your cap and gown, all regalia items must be returned at the designated drop-off stations before you leave Stern Auditorium.

All graduates are guaranteed access to up to two* guest tickets. Tickets will be distributed during the regalia pick-up dates in June. If you need to request more tickets, please fill out the Additional Commencement Ticket Form by April 15th. If additional tickets become available, we will notify you as soon as possible.

*The number of tickets allocated per student is subject to change per Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Infection Prevention restrictions.

Graduates who require special accommodations to participate in their Commencement Ceremony should contact us as soon as possible. Students with guests requiring early seating or special needs accommodations for Commencement should fill out the Special Seating Request Form by June 1. Please note that those who enter the Hall for early seating cannot hold seats for others.

After the event ends, graduates will be able to take pictures with their guests. Please note that all graduates must return their academic regalia to the Herff Jones drop-off stations inside Stern Auditorium. You will not be permitted to leave the premises with any regalia.

The School will hire a professional photographer to capture you receiving your diploma on stage. Prints of these professional shots will be available for purchase after the Commencement Ceremony, and further information on how to order prints will be provided in July 2024.

For your convenience, we have provided information on available accommodations as well as discounted rates.
