Pre and Post Travel Health

The Office of Global Operations is committed to helping you prepare for safe international travel. The following information will assist you in scheduling your pre-departure health visit, as well as providing guidance on local travel health clinics and post-travel health care resources.

Pre-Travel Health

A critical first step to ensuring safe and responsible international travel is scheduling your travel health visit 4-6 weeks before departure. During this exam you’ll receive medical advice as well as other important forms of care, including:

  • Country-specific immunization requirements and recommendations
  • A prescription for any recommended prophylactic medication (e.g., malaria prophylaxis)
  • Consultation regarding traveler health and safety
  • Refills of pre-existing medications as needed

We also encourage every traveler to research which immunizations are required or recommended for your destination well in advance of departure. Please check the Destinations section on the CDC’s Travelers’ Health website for country-specific information.

Students

Students should visit the Student Health Center or their personal physician for a travel consultation. Please note that all currently enrolled students at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai can visit the Student Health Center at no cost, regardless of insurance type.

To schedule an appointment call 212-241-6023, or use the MyMountSinai app.

Faculty, Staff, Residents, and Fellows

Faculty, staff, residents, and fellows should visit Employee Health or their personal physician for a travel consultation.

Post-Travel Health

If you are not feeling well once you have returned from your trip, please make an appointment with the Student Health Center, Employee Health, or your personal physician. Make sure you let your physician know that you recently traveled abroad.
