Message From the Chair

Since its inception over a century ago, the Estelle and Daniel Maggin Department of Neurology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai has been a pioneering force in innovative research, exceptional patient care, and training the next generation of neurologists. With investment and support from the Mount Sinai Health System and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, the Department has experienced tremendous growth in the last decade. Our interdisciplinary centers provide personalized care for the most common and complex neurological disorders, powered by our groundbreaking research teams and cutting-edge technology. We expanded our fellowship training programs to 11 specialties, recruited over 100 talented faculty from both internal and external sources, and have seen year-over-year growth in sponsored research funding—now exceeding $45 million annually.

We are at the epicenter of the Icahn School’s neurological research initiatives, spearheading programs in cutting-edge fields such as neuro-informatics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, neuro-palliative medicine, quality and safety research, outcomes research, and neuro-infectious diseases. Our distinguished faculty are committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and academic rigor, always prioritizing patient care and well-being. This unwavering dedication to excellence has earned us national recognition, with The Mount Sinai Hospital ranked No. 16 in Neurology and Neurosurgery by U.S. News & World Report for 2024-2025 and No. 13 in the United States for Neurology by Newsweek's "World's Best Specialized Hospitals" 2025.

As we continue to build upon our rich history and legacy of excellence, the Department of Neurology remains unwavering in its commitment to advancing the field of neurology.
