The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) is committed to fostering a diverse student body and research workforce. Our commitment includes cultivating a diverse applicant pool for our PhD programs in Biomedical Science and Neuroscience.
We recognize that applicants have different support opportunities during the graduate admission process. We offer guidance for application to our PhD programs in Biomedical Science and Neuroscience as part of the SINAI4US - Research Symposium and PhD Application Assistance and Advisory Program (PAAAP) for Underrepresented Scholars.
PAAAP includes a series of information sessions on how to prepare a competitive PhD application, followed by 1:1 individualized advisement sessions and mock interviews with Mount Sinai’s PhD training faculty (the latter limited to those applying for the 2022 admissions cycle of the PhD Programs in Biomedical Science or Neuroscience at ISMMS). The entire Program will be delivered via zoom.
To be eligible for the Program, you must have registered to SINAI4US.
Information sessions (open to all) will include:
- Understanding the GSBS PhD Holistic Review in PhD Admissions Process
- Advisement and Q&A sessions on the core components of PhD Applications (personal statements, research descriptions and CVs)
- Preparing for a PhD interview
- Meet our students: A panel discussion with GSBS PhD students
1:1 sessions with faculty (limited to those applying for the 2022 admissions cycle of the PhD Programs in Biomedical Science or Neuroscience at ISMMS) will include:
- Application feedback session with GSBS faculty
- Mock PhD Interviews with GSBS faculty
The application deadline is August 31, 2021 at 5pm. Notification of acceptance will be on September 15th. PAAAP information sessions will take place on the morning of Friday October 8th and will be available to all registrants. These will be followed by the 1:1 sessions with faculty (limited to those applying for the 2022 admissions cycle of the PhD Programs in Biomedical Science or Neuroscience at ISMMS) that will take place between October 11th-29th.
