Joshua B. Bederson, MD, Becomes First Neurosurgeon in New York to Use the Modus X in Brain Surgery

On November 2, 2023, Mount Sinai's Department of Neurosurgery became the first in New York to deploy the state-of-the-art Modus X robotic exoscope.

Leading this technological initiative was Joshua B. Bederson, MD,  the Leonard I. Malis, MD/Corinne and Joseph Graber Professor of Neurosurgery and Chair of Neurosurgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, making him the first neurosurgeon in New York to use the Modus X exoscope for brain surgery.

The Modus X exoscope provides great precision and clarity of vision. It makes it possible to harness the power of 4K 3D optics, 27x magnification, robotic camera alignment, and voice guidance to delve into the complexities of the brain with precise detail. This method allows doctors to observe the procedure on a 3D screen, greatly enhancing how neurosurgeons understand and engage with the human brain during surgical interventions. Use of this state-of-the-art device reaffirms the department's commitment to advanced medical care and also establishes it as a pioneer in the ever-evolving landscape of neurosurgical innovation.
