Interns are trained in the purpose and use of neuropsychological testing designed to assess a wide range of referral questions, including dementia evaluations and memory screenings, questions of capacity, psychiatric illness, and differential diagnoses. Assessment populations include inpatient and outpatient adults and geriatric patients with a variety of neurological and/or non-neurological disorders; acute psychiatric inpatients; and participants in Mount Sinai’s Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.

Interns receive weekly, face-to-face individual supervision with licensed neuropsychologists, and they acquire increasing levels of autonomy in all practice areas throughout the program. A small caseload of adult patients is assigned for weekly individual psychotherapy through the Mount Sinai Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Disorder Clinic. Our interns receive weekly supervision for these cases with experienced, licensed Mount Sinai psychologists trained in analytical and/or cognitive behavioral

Curriculum

A weekly didactic program centers on a one-year neuroscience and neuroanatomy course. The program also includes lectures that focus on psychopathology, treatment, assessment, research, diagnosis, and more. Interns attend weekly in-service meetings, case conferences, brain-cutting sessions, consensus meetings, and lectures, as well as Psychiatry Grand Rounds, and interdepartmental neurology meetings at the Barbara and Maurice Deane Center for Wellness and Cognitive Health.
