To meet the changing needs of health care delivery, the Clinical Track Cardiology Fellowship Program at the Icahn School of Medicine is designed to train cardiologists for careers in the delivery of cardiac care in the community. This is accomplished with academic rigor and strong links to the older Mount Sinai investigator track program. The major distinction between the two programs is the emphasis on clinical cardiology and delivery of patient care in the Clinical Track Cardiology Fellowship Program and on basic and clinical science and academic leadership in the Investigator Program.
The program is designed to attract trainees interested in pursuing careers in clinical cardiology. Based at the Mount Sinai Health System (an academic, tertiary care health science center), fellows spend considerable time at Elmhurst Hospital Center (an academic municipal hospital). It is our belief that this balance provides the environment for intellectual growth that best utilizes the outstanding resources available for clinical experience and cardiovascular research, emphasizing disease prevention and patient management.
