Message From the Director

The Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship offers a unique opportunity to train in world-class settings in the heart of New York City. We care for an incredibly diverse patient population with a wide range of diseases across the two hospitals: Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West. We are looking for self-motivated individuals who are eager for immersive, hands-on learning and hungry to explore new opportunities in medicine, education, and leadership.

Our program is uniquely committed to mentoring fellows in their individual interests and career aspirations. We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach—instead, we have a long and successful track record of guiding our fellows toward clinician-educator careers, leadership roles in academic medicine, and time-protected opportunities to pursue their professional passions. Whether it’s developing new tracks like our bioethics pathway, gaining expertise in health professions education through dedicated training and simulation leadership, or pursuing global health, quality improvement, or a master’s in healthcare leadership, we actively support our fellows in charting their own course.

The Divisions of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West have always been at the center of educational innovation. Through a hands-on, mastery learning approach that blends simulation-based training, bedside learning, and a dynamic “flipped classroom” curriculum, our fellows develop deep clinical and teaching expertise—especially in airway management, rapid response leadership, and point-of-care ultrasonography. Faculty are deeply invested in creating a collegial and supportive environment where education is personalized and excellence is expected.

By the time you complete the core requirements for ABIM certification in both Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine, you’ll have also had the chance to shape your own professional identity—one built not only on clinical excellence, but also on a foundation of leadership, scholarship, and innovation.
