Message From the Directors

The Psychiatry Residency at Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West trains the next generation of psychiatrists and is designed to nurture compassionate, skilled clinicians who are prepared to meet the diverse mental health needs of our local community and beyond. We take pride in offering a comprehensive curriculum that integrates the biological, psychological, and social aspects of psychiatric care.

Our approach emphasizes both psychotherapy and psychopharmacology, recognizing the importance of a holistic treatment perspective. Through hands-on clinical experiences and robust didactics, we strive to cultivate psychiatrists who are equally adept at diagnosing illness, establishing a therapeutic alliance, providing talk therapy and medication management and recognizing how to address the social determinants of health that affect so many of our patients.

Our residents play a vital role in patient care across our hospitals, contributing to a collaborative and supportive learning environment. We believe in teaching by example, and our faculty's enthusiasm for psychiatry and dedication to education is evident in every aspect of our program. As directors, we are committed to fostering an atmosphere in which our residents are viewed not just as trainees, but as valued colleagues who actively shape the future of our department. Each of us loves what we do and finds great joy in training our residents to be the best psychiatrists possible and to pursue their goals and dreams.

Our new Veterans Affairs (VA) Scholarly Track offers residents the opportunity to gain specialized experience in treating our nation's veterans, engaging in cutting-edge research and working within the unique VA health care system. Whether in this track or our General Track, all our residents benefit from working with the diverse patient population we serve.

Our residents graduate with the skills and confidence to pursue any career direction, from fellowship training or research to joining a community setting, an academic hospital or a practice. Many of our graduates go on to prestigious fellowships in child and adolescent psychiatry, consultation-liaison medicine, public psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry.

We are confident that your experience here will provide a strong foundation for your future in psychiatry. To those considering joining our program, we invite you to explore the rich opportunities we offer. Your passion for psychiatry and dedication to patient care could find a home here, where we are committed to shaping the next generation of psychiatric clinicians and leaders.
