Education

The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is one of the largest anesthesiology training programs in the United States, offering unparalleled educational opportunities for aspiring anesthesiologists. Our comprehensive approach to education integrates three essential components: hands-on clinical practice, state-of-the-art simulation, and rigorous classroom learning. This triad of educational methods ensures our trainees are thoroughly prepared for the complexities and rapid evolution of modern anesthesiology practice.

Our educational excellence is further bolstered by our world-renowned faculty, many of whom serve as editors and major contributors to the field's leading textbooks. This wealth of expertise, combined with our expansive clinical network across multiple Mount Sinai hospitals, provides our trainees with exposure to a diverse range of cases and specialties.

Since 2014, our training program has grown to encompass two distinct residency programs and numerous fellowship opportunities, including our longstanding Liver Transplant Anesthesia Fellowship. Throughout all our educational initiatives, we maintain a collegial, supportive environment that fosters both professional growth and personal development. Our commitment to comprehensive training ensures that graduates of our programs are prepared for current practice and poised to become leaders and innovators for the duration of their careers.
