Carlos Cordon-Cardo, MD, PhD, is the Chair of the Department of Pathology, Molecular and Cell-Based Medicine. A prolific publisher and leader in oncologic pathology, Dr. Cordon-Cardo is internationally recognized as a founding father of molecular pathology and a visionary in the nascent field of systems pathology—a field that uses systems biology to form mathematical models of the interaction and behavior of cancer cells with the goal of determining tumor pathogenesis and clinical outcome.
Dr. Cordon-Cardo has expanded the Department to include mathematicians, computational biologists, and systems biologists in order to integrate advances in molecular medicine and pathology and identify specific biological targets of disease into our efforts. Ultimately, our goal is to translate our findings for clinical use.
