The Mount Sinai Institute for Systems Biomedicine (MSISB) is developing new transdisciplinary approaches in basic and translational research to further develop precision medicine for organ systems and diseases. MSISB uses convergent approaches to integrate big data from omic technologies and cell biology with human physiology with pathophysiology and big data in electronic health record databases.

Integrating big data in cell biology, human physiology, and pathophysiology, researchers in the institute are developing multiscale understanding of disease initiation and progression in individuals. We are also focused on mechanism based combination therapy for complex diseases. Our researchers use machine learning algorithms and computational modeling, including graph theory based network analyses and differential equation-based dynamical models to integrate experiments in cells and organoids derived from induced pluripotent stem-cells, human biopsies, animal model experiments and mechanism based clinical trials
