Department of Medicine announces that Andrew S. Dunn, MD, FACP, SFHM, who has led the Hospitalist Division as the Acting Chief for the last two years, becomes its first ever Division Chief.

Mount Sinai Health System merges with Continuum Health Partners to become an eight-hospital system throughout New York City.

Hospitalist divisions are established at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Mount Sinai St. Luke’s, and Mount Sinai Roosevelt.

The Student High Value Care program is launched. This innovative educational module led by the Division of Hospital Medicine provides Icahn Mount Sinai students with education and longitudinal experience on a mentored project addressing high value care in hospitals.

Mount Sinai’s Division of Hospital Medicine partners with The New Jewish Home (TNJH) skilled nursing facility to create a Hospitalist Program at TNJH. Mount Sinai doctors and nurse practitioners provide a seamless transition for patients who need a subacute rehabilitation unit or long-term facility.

Hospitalist Tao Xu, MD, is named Medical Director of Mount Sinai International (MSI). MSI performs worldwide consulting to help hospitals increase quality and safety and achieve Joint Commission International accreditation.

Mount Sinai’s Hospital at Home Program is transitioned under the leadership and direction of Division of Hospital Medicine. Growth increased four-fold within 18 months, while maintaining extraordinarily high measures of quality and patient satisfaction.

The Central Hospitalist (CH) program is developed. This innovative program provides a virtual hospitalist to enhance throughput and patient care across a busy health system. The CH program decreased the time needed to approve inter-hospital transfers, facilitated identification of patients for the Hospital at Home program, and improved the care of patients with sepsis.
