Faculty-to-Faculty (F2F) Mentoring Program through Icahn Connect

Mentoring has tremendous benefits for both Mentors and Mentees. For Mentees, strong mentorship can enhance their career progression, and increase their productivity and workplace satisfaction. For Mentors, mentoring allows them to hone their leadership and communication skills, contribute to a caring workplace culture, and showcase their knowledge. For both Mentors and Mentees, mentoring relationships help form valuable social connections and expand their professional networks.

Our new mentoring platform allows all active part-time or full-time faculty at any Mount Sinai site on any career track (Clinician, Educator, Investigator, Research) to participate in the program. Associate and Full Professors are invited to complete Mentor profiles, while Assistant and Associate Professors are invited to complete Mentee profiles. Completion of a profile takes less than ten minutes and needs only to be completed once, although faculty may update their profiles at any time. When Mentees complete their profile and their registration is approved, their personalized F2F home page will display suggested Mentors, based on a proprietary algorithm that matches Mentees with Mentors based on the career needs and interests of the Mentees. Mentees can request up to three Mentors on the platform. All faculty can use the search function of the platform to search for Mentors based on profile criteria that they specify.  The platform provides automated email prompts for Mentees to set up meetings, as well as Faculty Development plan templates for Clinician/Educator and Investigator/Research tracks.

Goals

The goals of the program are to:

  • Make sure that all faculty who want mentors are able to obtain them
  • Facilitate mentoring across departments and sites
  • Facilitate connections between clinical and research faculty
  • Provide valuable feedback to Department Leaders about unmet faculty mentoring needs within their own Department
