Office of Curricular Affairs

At the Office of Curricular Affairs, our mission is to encourage every medical student to evolve into an exemplary physician. To this end, we leverage our expertise to enact and improve the Medical Education Program at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Our responsibilities are fundamentally guided by our mission, and include curriculum development and oversight, assessment and evaluation, faculty support, accreditation compliance, educational technology integration, and policy development.

The Office of Curricular Affairs ensures that all aspects of the Medical Education Program curriculum comply with accreditation standards and uphold Icahn Mount Sinai’s legacy of educational excellence.

To optimize student outcomes, we continuously refine the curriculum to align with the latest practices and technology. Our policies aim to foster holistic student development and a collaborative atmosphere, where effective teaching strategies, professionalism, and wrap-around services truly support the next generation of physicians.

Within the Medical Education Program, we maintain robust assessment strategies that blend formative and summative approaches to evaluate performance, ensuring that every student is prepared to advance through the curriculum. We also embrace educational technologies that enhance the learning experience and reflect the wider reality of our technology-driven medical landscape.

To further drive improvement, the Office has several processes in place. We regularly engage with student leadership across cohorts, courses, clerkships, and student government for feedback. We additionally support faculty development through Icahn Mount Sinai’s Institute for Medical Education, which provides programming for Mount Sinai’s entire medical education community. Building upon this programming, we also offer specialized resources and training focused on curricular leadership.
