Additional Student Resources

Becoming a physician, scientist, or health care leader demands more than just academic prowess—it requires a holistic learning environment. At the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, we provide a suite of resources designed to empower our students at every step of their educational journey. These services reflect our vision of cultivating well-rounded, resilient, and compassionate medical professionals, and we encourage every student to leverage them to enhance their own growth, both personally and professionally.

Inclusive Learning Environment

The Center for Multicultural and Community Affairs (CMCA) serves as a driving force for diversity and inclusion at the Icahn School, providing academic and non-academic resources for medical students who are underrepresented in medicine and science, as well as those from disadvantaged backgrounds. With a mission to eliminate health disparities through innovative, integrative approaches to education, CMCA works to transform structures, policies, practices, and mindsets. Through its commitment to diversifying the clinical workforce, conducting research, and influencing health policy at all levels, the Center strives to advance health equity and improve outcomes for all populations.

Enrollment and Other Student Services

The Office of Student Financial Services, Office of the Registrar, Student Disability Resources, and Academic IT Support Center collaborate to support every student’s education at the Icahn School. The Office of Student Financial Services provides comprehensive guidance on financing your education through fellowships, part-time employment opportunities (including work-study programs), loans, and scholarships. The Office of the Registrar maintains the integrity of student records and manages enrollment-related data projects, and Student Disability Resources ensures a physically and educationally accessible learning environment. For technology needs, the Academic IT Support Center stands ready to assist with any technical services requests or issues.

Student Health

The Icahn School actively supports the physical and mental wellbeing of medical students through two dedicated services: the Student Health Center, which provides comprehensive health services, including required immunizations, screenings, and training physicals; and Student and Trainee Mental Health Program, which ensures all students have access to complete mental health care at no cost, regardless of their insurance coverage.

Institutional Policies and Reporting

The Medical Student Handbook provides an overview of institutional policies and procedures at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, guiding students from matriculation through graduation. These policies and procedures may be updated periodically, and students are encouraged to review the Medical Student Handbook on a regular basis.

The Office of the Ombuds provides confidential counsel and support for medical students facing academic, career, or personal concerns. These situations may involve harassment, discrimination, unfair treatment, interpersonal disputes, policy questions, or knowledge of misconduct. While the Ombuds serves as a confidential resource in most cases—except where legal action is required—students may also direct Title IX inquiries to our Title IX coordinator and/or the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights.
